What is CHIP?
(CHIP
is an acronym
for Coronary Health
Improvement Project.)
Dr.
Hans Diehl DrHSc, MPH, FACN, CNS, is Clinical Professor of
Preventive Medicine at the School of Medicine at Loma Linda
University. He is the director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute
in Loma Linda, CA and the founder of CHIP.
As a pioneer in lifestyle medicine, he directed the research and
education program at the Pritikin Longevity Center. Later, as a
post-doctoral research fellow in cardiovascular epidemiology,
supported by the National Institutes of Health, he evaluated these
results. He has a doctorate in Health Science and Masters in Public
Health Nutrition from Loma Linda University. His presentations are
always compelling, clear and most relevant today.
Dr. Diehl’s pioneering efforts with Nathan Pritikin and Dr. Denis
Burkitt have shown conclusively that many of today's diseases are
truly reversible through some simple lifestyle changes. As a best
selling author, researcher, dynamic speaker and life-style
motivator, Dr. Diehl has lectured to corporations and governments and
has presented seminars on four continents.
The CHIP program itself was born in the
winter of 1988 when Dr. Diehl was invited to conduct a 4-week
lifestyle change program in Creston, British Columbia, a community
of about 5,000. Four hundred persons accepted the challenge to take
responsibility for their health and became charter members of the
first CHIP program.
Since
Dr. Diehl cannot personally attend every meeting he has prepared a
series of video lectures showing the way to reverse type II
diabetes, atherosclerosis, osteoporosis and many other diseases as
well as the added bonus of losing weight . As mentioned above
CHIP
is a lifestyle change and not a fad diet. CHIP educates you on how
to live a healthy lifestyle and reverse many of the diseases that
plague Western society.
CHIP is
a series of sixteen two hour meetings where informative video
presentations, cooking and shopping demonstrations, healthy food,
recipes, and friendly exercise competitions are the fare. At the
beginning and again at the end of each series a health screen is
conducted where a blood draw is performed by local medical
professionals and lab work is conducted to first benchmark and then
compare results. The vast majority of the participants will show
improvement within 30 days.
CHIP in no way wishes to separate you
from your personal physician - in fact we encourage you to consult
with your doctor before entering the program and to keep him
informed on your progress. Many participants can reduce or eliminate
some medications, however, your physician should make that call as
he is aware of all your health needs. CHIP does not replace
your doctor.
When the
series is over CHIP does not leave you hanging.
CHIP provides
ongoing support through it's Alumni program. CHIP is staffed by
volunteers and former participants from the local area. We live here
and are not going away after the series is completed. In fact we
plan to do two series a year from now on.
